So, some of you may have read my previous article “8 Tips for ‘Bashful Brides’ and ‘Introverted Grooms’ (coming from an introverted photographer)”. After talking with a few other introverted brides + grooms, I began to think of a few other little things… So here are 10 more tips that will help you to actually enjoy your wedding day, and not feel quite so drained when it’s all over…

1. As introverts, we (and I’m saying “we” because I am an introvert myself), tend to get caught up in the planning of things and we always notice, and sometimes obsess over the details. Be sure to communicate with your planner/coordinator ahead of time, tell them what you want, and then allow them to take all of that from you on the big day. Just let it go, and let your coordinator do his/her job and you will be a lot less stressed out. Save your energy. :)

2. Short + sweet is a good thing. Have a short + sweet wedding ceremony with a reception that lasts only 3-4 hours.

3. Don’t have your ceremony up on a stage, but instead, have it outside in a wide open space or in a place where you feel most at ease.

4. Don’t do a receiving line. Greet your guests by going around during the reception and have one-on-one conversation instead of an awkward receiving line right after the ceremony. Also, don’t invite a ton of people that you or your soon to be hubby don’t know. Try to keep it down to only close family and close friends.

5. Skip the “announcement” of the Bride + Groom during the reception. Nothing wrong with just walking in to join the reception. Do it your way! Be sure to communicate this with your DJ or band.

6. Escape. Step away if you need to during the reception, go to the powder room, go for a little walk, have a drink of water, and then come back to your reception refreshed.

7. Avoid speeches. If you and your groom don’t want to say anything publicly, then don’t feel pressured to do it. Talk to your coordinator and let him/her know that you do not want to have a time allocated for “speeches” during your reception. If people want to say something to you, they can come to you and say it personally instead of publicly.

8. Communicate to your photographer that you are an introvert and make plans for them to take you aside and away from an observing crowd when it’s time for your bride + groom pictures. Don’t like stuffy, super-posed, or formal photos? Choose a photographer who blends in and captures the day as it unfolds. Look for a photographer who has a photojournalistic approach to the wedding day and communicate what you do and don’t want to do ahead of time.

9. What to do if you’re an introvert and your hubby-to-be is an extrovert? It’s so true that opposites attract. The important thing is to communicate. Discuss the things that are really important to you and the things that are really important to your soon to be spouse and come up with a healthy compromise so that both of you have the wedding day experience that you will enjoy.

10. Elope! Yes, I mentioned this previously, but it’s just such a great tip so I thought I’d mention it again! Don't just go to the courthouse though, head up to The Mast Farm Inn and have a "mountain destination" elopement!
